Made to fit your staircase

Three ways to close off the bottom of the stairs

Every staircase meets the floor differently. Our modular gates are built to suit the way yours does.

Straight across the base

A gate across the bottom step, between walls, a newel post or a balustrade.

Enclosed underneath

Open stairs can leave a gap under the treads. We can enclose it to prevent entrapment and head knocks.

Wrap around for open stairs

An L-shaped gate that wraps the base of an open or floating staircase, where there's no wall to fix to.

Gates we've made for the bottom of stairs

Every gate is made to measure. These examples show the sizes and module counts we've built before.

Getting the bottom of the stairs right

What we check on every stair-bottom install

Children copy what they see. Open the gate every time, ideally hiding how it works with your body.

Always open the gate, never step over it

The bottom of the stairs has its own traps: newel posts, glass balustrades and climbable railings.

Never pressure-mount on glass

Constant pressure stresses a glass balustrade, and an impact could shatter it. We use custom fixings instead.

Don't pressure-mount on an unsupported newel post

Posts can deflect under constant pressure and, in the worst case, need major structural repair.

Check the balustrade next to the gate

Horizontal or ornate balustrades can be climbed, and pre-1990s homes may have open ones. Dangerous balustrades need closing off too.
