When to enclose the bottom of the stairs
A standard gate only closes off the first step. On open stairs, a toddler can still get in from the side or crawl underneath. An enclosed gate wraps around the whole base of the stairs, so every way in is closed off.
It suits your home if:

We recommend a manual gate. Self-closing mechanisms wear with daily use, and manual latching is the only failsafe way to know the gate is shut.
